Founded in Chicago in 1959, The Second City has become the premier training ground for the comedy world’s best and brightest. Today, The Second City continues to produce brilliant work with the premiere comic talent in the industry. Their alumni list reads like a who’s who of American comedy, as it includes: Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Robert Klein, Peter Boyle, Harold Ramis, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, George Wendt, Martin Short, John Candy, Bonnie Hunt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Horatio Sanz, Ryan Stiles, Jack McBrayer, Tim Meadows, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey and countless others. Currently, Second City is the largest training center for improvisation and acting in the country with 13,000 students a year at schools in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Toronto as National Touring Companies and casts on cruise lines. Each year Second City provides up to 20 scholarships for new students, and builds new alliances with potential talent, community organizations and universities to increases their reach. They open doors to students and communities who might not otherwise have access to these programs. The Second City remains experimental and unconventional in its approach to theatre and comedy, railing against the conformist culture with scenes that speak to younger generations. Specializing in sketch comedy and improv, The Second City has been delighting audiences for over 50 years. Not only will an evening with The Second City provide audiences with the chance to see comedy stars in the making, but they will also have the opportunity to see absolutely hilarious satire and cutting-edge improvisation. No topic or subject matter is off limits for The Second City.
