In the wake of Election Day, Madame Tussauds Washington D.C. -- home of the Presidents Gallery -- today announced that host of Comedy Central's Emmy® and Peabody® Award-winning series THE COLBERT REPORT Stephen Colbert, will be immortalized in wax. Colbert will help unveil his figure at the attraction (1001 F Street, NW, corner of 10th & F Streets) on Friday, November 16, 2012. Providing a preview of the figure's appearance, Tussauds also unveiled photos of the sculpted clay-head mold used to create the political satirist's wax likeness.
For the new figure, Madame Tussauds D.C. is renovating its Media Room and creating a replica set of The Colbert Report, where guests will be able to interact and take photos behind the desk, seated next to the figure.
"It's ironic that the last seven days began with one of the most significant days in United States politics and today we are capping it off by announcing a wax figure of one of the nation's most renowned political satirists," said Dan Rogoski, General Manager for Madame Tussauds D.C. "Stephen Colbert was an ideal choice to immortalize in wax and we know our guests and especially his fans, will enjoy stepping onto the show's set and interacting with his figure."
Colbert was an active participant in the creation of his wax figure, spending time with a team of Madame Tussauds studio artists, who joined him at his show's New York City studio in June of this year to take more than 250 precise measurements and photographs -- capturing him from every angle. Since then, the team of artists have been working diligently to ensure the figure fully captures his unique style, exact eye color, build and overall allure, including his signature raised eyebrow.
Additionally, Colbert donated his own clothes to outfit the figure, including a suit, tie, shirt, cuff links, socks, shoes and lapel pin. He also provided information for his eye glasses to Madame Tussauds, which had them recreated to exact specification and magnification.
