Comedian Michael Malone beat out more than 800 comics from around the world to take home the top prize from the 33rd Annual Seattle International Comedy Competition.
Last Sunday wrapped a month of competition between 33 stand-up comedians from around the world with Malone earning the number one spot. More than 800 comedians entered the competition, and 33 were chosen to compete in Seattle throughout the month.
Malone, best known for his number three selling comedy album on iTunes, "Let's Get Physical," and recent $5 download release, "Casual Sext," competed in 17 shows this November to wind up on top in Sunday night's showdown. His victory was foreshadowed by first place finishes in both the preliminary and semi-final rounds earlier this month, though the final heat was extremely competitive. Malone squeezed out the overall first place by 0.18 of a point over second place comedian Joe Klocek of San Francisco. Malone won $5,000 and a recording deal with Uproar records.
Malone headlines clubs and colleges across the country, often noted by audiences for his "rubber face" and versatile material styles honed over ten years on the road. His most recent project, "Casual Sext" is available for $5 download at his website (www.malonecomedy.com) or CD on iTunes. "Casual Sext" tackles the tough issues facing today’s modern romantic couple such as: sexting, owning pets and negotiating ping-pong ball tricks, and the drama of Facebook. Malone was named one of Campus Activities’ Magazine's "Hot Comics to Watch in 2013 and made appearances on Bob and Tom Radio and TV, National Lampoom’s Operation Comedy Tour, NBC, XM Sirius Satellite radio, WGN and the CW.
The Seattle Comedy Competition is in its 33rd year run by Ron Reid, Peter Greyy and Jon Fox. The top five stand-up comedy prizes of the event went to Michael Malone, first; Joe Klocek, second; Tyrone Hawkins, third; Landry, fourth, Elliot Maxx, fifth.
