DSI Comedy Theater to Present Sixth Annual Carolina's Funniest Contest

DSI Comedy Theater to Present Sixth Annual Carolina's Funniest Contest

This March, audiences at DSI Comedy Theater will once again have an opportunity to crown the funniest person in North Carolina as it hosts Carolina's Funniest Comic. Now in its 6th year, this competition runs throughout the month of March. Shows are every Friday at 7:30 pm starting March 8. There will be added shows Thursday, March 7 at 7:30 pm and Friday, March 8 at 9 pm. Tickets to each round cost $12 and all shows run at DSI Comedy Theater, 200 N. Greensboro Street in the Carr Mill Mall between Elmo's and Southern Rail. The finals will be Friday, April 5 at 7:30 pm at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro. Tickets for all shows and more information can be found at www.dsicomedy.com.

Each year, comedians compete for $1500 in cash and prizes and a featured spot in the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival. DSI has become the venue in The Triangle for Alternative Standup Comedy over the past six years. In addition to running an incredibly successful comedy festival, DSI has presented Louis CK, Eddie Brill, Aparna Nancherla, Josh Gondelman, Emo Philips, hosted Kumail Nanjiani's Christmas Eve Eve Spectacular two years in a row, and the Beards of Comedy CD Release. The 2013 North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival featured a headlining performance with Steven Wright and a multiple sets from Chelsea Lately writer April Richardson and a host of rising comics from around the country.

Following the changes made last year, the competition will begin with 30 comedians and each week the pool will be paired down until there are four comics standing who will compete Friday, April 5 at the for the title of Carolina's Funniest Comic. Each week, the audience gets to decide who stays and who goes home. There will be a wild card spot this year in the finals - every comic in the competition will have an opportunity to vote for a comic other than themselves to claim the wild card spot in the final round.

The winner will ultimately earn $1000 and a slot in the 2014 North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival. Previous winner Tom Keller was selected to perform at the Great American Comedy Festival in Johnny Carson's hometown. The second place winner will take home $300 and the third and fourth place winners will also take home prize money.
