Australian Entrepreneur Launches Start-up Online Comedy Website Skittell.com

Amateur, scripted comedy has yet to find a comfortable home on the web. Sites that feature professional comedy content such as "College Humor" and "Funny or Die" cast a large shadow over the online comedy landscape. A newly launched site, www.skittell.com, hopes to shake things up, making a space for new ideas and voices. Skittell.com is a video upload site where amateur comedians can showcase their talents.

Site founder and amateur comedian Rob Woodland believes that unheralded, fledgling funny people have a wealth of great ideas, daring and spontaneity to offer the online community. He hopes these funny people will provide a much-needed injection of fun to comedy on the web. As a free site, Skittell.com has literally no barriers to entry.

As the name suggests, Skittell.com specializes in "skits" - comedy sketches that run between 1 and 3 minutes. Recording and uploading a comedy skit is far easier than many people think. Today's high-definition video cameras are small and lightweight, but offer picture quality that far exceeds their clunky predecessors. Video editing software is more user-friendly than ever. The Skittell.com website includes an easy-to-read checklist for producing and uploading a skit. Registration for an account is free and carries no obligation.

Visitors to Skittell.com will no doubt find hidden gems, as well as some sketches that may miss the mark. Either way, the site will offer material that can't be found anywhere else. Skittell.com has no plans to re-publish content from other sites. Instead, the site's content will be entirely original and never before seen.

As a community-driven site, Skittell.com will provide a meeting place for like-minded funny people from every corner of the globe. Users will have the opportunity to share ideas and techniques, as well as simply draw inspiration from the creativity of others. In the words of Woodland, Skittell.com is a site created "by amateurs - for amateurs."

To further build the community of amateur comedians, Skittell.com features a series of short tutorials on video production techniques. Topics covered include how to work with green screen, how to capture clear, quality audio and how to edit videos or add voiceovers with software. Woodland believes that even amateur comedy skits can have a professional "polish." Users who apply everything in the tutorials will be producing top-notch skits in no time flat.

"Skittell.com will be free for everyone, both users and viewers," explained Woodland. "Our only request is that uploaded content be as professional as possible. That means no talking cats, puking babies or intoxicated wedding dancers, please. We want to be a platform for aspiring comedians who want their material to be seen by a wider audience. On a similar note, we're not interested in 'shocking' comedy, so we ask that everyone read the Community Guidelines before getting started."

Skittell.com is the brainchild of Rob Woodland, an Australian entrepreneur and amateur comedian. The site launched in November 2012. The site is free to use and provides a new platform for amateur comedians to broadcast their work.
